Lighting

Woodlabo is a passionate team who design and manufacture interior lighting in wood. Spacecraft from a borderless world, an invitation to travel between nature and space. Woodlabo, set up in Finland in 2010 and now based in France, shares a love of human values, simplicity, challenges and expertise.

Woodlabo takes on architects’ bespoke projects: rescaling, lighting, fitting, adaptation for outdoors and creating new forms developed from standard models.

The lights are designed to produce minimum offcuts, which are then reused to heat the workshop. We only use wood from European sustainable forests. Packaging for the lights is also wooden. Our partners, whose expertise complements our own, are all located within a radius of 300 km.

Projects

Woodlabo also undertakes other projects that showcase its expertise: interior design, stage design, global design, industrial design, furniture, art direction and events.

Manufacturing

Woodlabo’s projects are designed and manufactured in two workspaces. The workshop located in the heart of the city of Bordeaux, and the studio in the forest surrounded by vineyards.

Workshop

The workshop is a former wheelwright workshop with state-of-the-art machinery for prototyping, part of the lighting manufacture process and bespoke production.

Studio

The studio, hidden in the forest and with its large glazed surfaces, benefits from an uninterrupted view of nature, the night and starry skies. It is heated with wood from the surrounding forest.

Joiner - Designer

Everything started when I was ten, thanks to a group of retired wood workers who introduced me to wood. When I was 14 I traveled round France and Europe through a French organization of craftsmen and artisans, the Compagnons du Devoir. They imparted their love of travel, human values and expertise. I met my partner a few years later and decided to join her in her hometown of Turku in Finland. I discovered simplicity, freedom and nature while there.
